Child Speech (Articulation, Speech Delay, Lisp)

Jacqueline, mother of AJ (2 years old), USA

AJ was 2 years old when we found that he did not have a developed mind of 2 years old. He was not able to talk. He got speech delay, he could not speak a single word.

At 2 years old, his receptive communication skill was akin to a 1 year old. I was feeling depressed and my husband was anxious of his development.

After attending therapy at Leo Magan, we could see AJ’s improvement. During the first month, he was starting to copy and repeat after us. And in the second month, his vocabulary expanded tremendously. Recently, (two weeks ago) he was able to say dada, and mama 🙂

Definitely everyone in the house is more happy and joyful now. We are able to have simple conversation with him and there is more interaction coming from AJ. AJ seems to be more happy that he found a way to communicate with us.

When he was able to say Dada & Mama! I was touch as he was able to address me now as Mama. And when I read stories to him, he was more interactive and I was getting simple response from him.

It’s reasonable and sustainable we are able to keep it up over a long period of time.

THANK YOU! Your job is important and it meant a lot to parents and children. Able to give a headstart to children like AJ.

I would definitely encourage them. In fact i have recommended you to my friend. Keep up the good work and be proud of yourself. You have helped many parents and children.

Jacqueline, mother of AJ (2 years old), USA

Before Leroy came to LeoMagan, we just couldn’t communicate with him. It was always two words like “Daddy, see”. He couldn’t even talk about his favourite toys or answer questions like “What’s this?”. This made us frustrated because we couldn’t have a conversation with him.

In the past 2 months, Leroy has improved by 1 year. I can really converse with him. Previously at home, no matter what we do, we can’t help him improve. I can now have a conversation with my child, and he also doesn’t get so frustrated.

All the materials is suitable, and the teachers engage with him. The materials are not fancy; simple but it works. As soon as he gets in the car after class, he wants to look at his materials. He has a file full of lesson materials and he brings it around like his treasure.

For those who are considering speech therapy, it really works. We don’t really know how to help him. Just get started. Once he gets it, he’ll be fine.

Raymond, Father of Leroy (5 years old), Singapore

Thank you so much, Magan and Leo. Magan will never ask us to write reviews for them and yes after 2 years I feel their effort must be recognised.

It has been two years since I stopped my son's therapy and until now I am still grateful to you.

My son experienced a physical delay in speech and development stages. It is so encouraging to see my son being so confident today and also a prayer leader in school.

First experience when my son couldn't utter a speech: A speech therapist (other center) analyzed him initially, and it turned out he didn't have ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) or hearing issues. He was actually diagnosed with an articulation speech instead. We started speech therapy immediately and after a few lessons, my son refused to cooperate and stay in the room.

Hence, I seek a second opinion consultation with Leo Magan. Magan diagnosed my son with Speech dyspraxia, it is a speech disorder in which a person has trouble pronouncing words correctly and consistently. At the age of 4 years old, we started with Leo Magan.

Private speech therapy is an expensive treatment which most of the families might have difficulty doing it for a long time and will eventually drop the idea of continuing therapy even if requires years of treatment.

I cannot afford such a hefty cost for speech therapy if I have to bring him on a long term basis. They were truly kind because to them it was not in terms of monetary, they were focusing on helping the children. They believe that this is like playing sports and hence practice makes one perfect, speech therapy therefore needs to be done consistently.

Until now, my son still remembers the team. Not to mention, Sarah who is my son's teacher walk him throughout, she is a very patient teacher. I'm touched beyond words and thank you so much for never giving up on the goal. I sincerely wish the team all the best and do keep up the good work!

Su - Mother of Traven (6 years old), Singapore

We were looking for a speech therapist to weigh in on a potential speech habit issue with our son that was impacting his teeth alignment.

Leo Magan came highly recommended by a good friend and we were glad to have gone by to see them. Not only were they willing to accommodate squeezing us into their busy schedule but they proved to be highly competent at what they do: efficient, effective and engaging in their process and interactions.

Unlike other therapy centers that usually like putting children on a more prolonged program, Magan sent us home with a personally designed homework kit since she determined my son was more than able to correct the issue he had.

Since seeing them- even just that one time, we have been using her practice "prescriptions" and have seen much improvement!

Cherie, Mother of Quentin (Primary 1), Singapore
Mother of Xavier (Primary 1), Indonesia

I very thanks a lot to Leo Magan teachers. Before I came to Leo Magan, Xavier already in Primary 1 but he don’t want to talk, don’t know how to talk. For example, he say ‘waker’ for ‘water’. I feel very sad why my son can’t talk like me and sometimes I cry. I keep thinking is it my fault, something I didn’t do. People around me also ask me a lot of questions. His grandmother keeps asking “When is he going to talk to me?”

About 1 month after starting therapy classes, I could already see the improvement. He started talking more fluently. It changed everybody’s life. My husband and I are very happy. His grandmother is also very happy.

Now he has therapy for about 6 months. I can see the improvement even more over the December holidays when I went back to my hometown in Indonesia. Previously he didn’t know how to talk to other children. I had to look out for him. Now he talks about everything to everyone. Now he’s got personality. He’s got character. He asks questions. My brother and mother are all so surprised and happy. They ask me why I didn’t go speech therapy early! He even pick up Malay better!

I am so proud of my son now, and I really thank the Leo Magan teachers a lot. They teach my son, and they teach me also. I learn how to teach my son better. For this kind of teaching at this price is very good for me.

If I know about Leo Magan I bring my child in Nursery so he is ready for Primary 1! I would tell other parents to come here, don’t delay, it is easier for the child. Try and you will see the improvement for yourself.

Mother of Xavier (Primary 1), Indonesia

Before coming to LeoMagan, it was mostly a one-way communication with my son. He didn’t seem to comprehend much, and he couldn’t answer questions or express his needs and wants. I was frustrated and lost.

Lionel started answering questions with single words within a month, although it still took him longer to answer in longer sentences. It was a slow beginning, but his impovements were rapid after that.

He started to ask questions and even complain. He opened up in all aspects. He is nearer to his peers level. Previously, he was far behind, very different.

Now, he can share his thoughts with me. He talks about the clouds and how they look like. And when classes end and I tell him it’s time to go, he speaks up and ask “Can I play for 2 more minutes?”

As compared to in the past where he will keep silent even though his body language shows that he doesn’t want to go home yet. He can even talk about the future and say things like “If I’m good can we go to the playground tomorrow?”. He could get closer to his peers, and this used to be very difficult for him in the past.

LeoMagan has a very practical approach. I don’t just get a check list of what my child should do. I get actual tips and suggestions about what i can do to practice at home.

The teachers are always willing to listen to my questions and give me tips to help. They also brief me after every lesson, explaining the reasons behind what they do and how they teach.

Leonard, Father of Lionel (5 years old), Singapore

Before Sherman came to LeoMagan, we were anxious and concerned because he had difficulty following instructions and interacting with people.

After attending classes at Leomagan, Sherman is now able to express his feeling better and has become more independent. This makes it easier for us to give him instructions

The Teachers at Leo Magan, have been really caring and attentive to Sherman’s needs and we are very appreciative of that. Speech therapy has given Sherman help to overcome his initial social and verbal difficulties and made him more confident now.

We are glad, to get professional help at Leo Magan at affordable price. Thank you for the attentiveness and support you have provided us over the years while Sherman was receiving Therapy.

Jann, Mother of Sherman (Primary 1), Singapore

My daughter has always been quick to pick up anything new as a child which did not require motor skills. She is intelligent when it comes to understanding adults and learning math at a very young age. We noticed some quirks she had at home but I thought they were cute.

At age 4/5, her teachers noticed she was “shutting off” in class and being very much in her own world. She also told me that she disliked school. I seeked help from some therapists for assessments and the initial diagnosis was undecided between Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) and Dyslexia.

Just after 3 months of therapy at LeoMagan, school teachers noticed vast improvements. She is paying attention in class now and starting to enjoy school, and even says to me sometimes “Mummy, I had a good day in school today!” She is no longer writing letters and words back to front. After 4 months of therapy, my daughter can even read a little story book for me and her daddy :).

Without the help of Magan, who also gave me guidance on how to help my daughter at home, her improvement would not have been possible. I’m firmly against the false belief that giving help to a child would be labelling them. I believe that we all have different strengths and weaknesses and sometimes a little help, especially at a very early age, can go a LONG way.

Without the help of teachers and therapists, this would not have been possible. There is no harm at all trying to help a child. Giving help should be seen merely as a recognition that everyone is different. I want to say, Well done Miss Magan, I am glad we found you!

Before I came to LeoMagan, Zenon has language issues. He cannot reasonate well and throws tantrum when he is unable to express himself well. I was frustrated when he threw tantrums and his school teachers had problems comprehending his needs.

After therapy classes at LeoMagan have commenced, Zenon was able to communicate better and his ability to communicate his needs had improved. The teachers are able to understand his needs better and Zenon is now able to relate events with more details.

As most centres charges very high rates, it deferred me from signing Zenon up for therapy sessions. Glad that my friend recommended me to LeoMagan so I was able to quickly sign him up for early interventions. LeoMagan offers great teaching especially the feedback that the teachers provide after each session.

I strongly recommend parents to bring their children here as Magan’s experience and patience with kids is a great plus. She is able to identify issues and as a parent, I learnt how to tackle those issues with some of the techniques she shared. Overall, great experience!

- Parents of Zenon (5 years old), Singapore

Before I came to LeoMagan, Troy was not speaking and that was a very worrying sign.

After therapy classes at LeoMagan have commenced, Troy started to utter words. He now talks a lot more and sometimes would not even stop! To much of our relief and delight, we can now communicate and understand each other better.

LeoMagan works in a way such that the therapist is familiar with Troy’s situation and progress, which we think is a very effective system. That to us is more important than the cost of therapy. We truly appreciate the teachers’ patience and efforts for guiding Troy along and I must commend on their great work that has helped Troy improve leaps and bounds.

I strongly recommend parents to bring their children here if they are considering speech therapy. In fact, I have already referred some new parents I know to LeoMagan given the good experience I have had here.

Father of Troy (5 years old), Singapore

Julian has improved so much in his speech after attending the sessions. He's now a very talkative boy! He enjoys the sessions so much, he's always saying "I want to see Javier and Teacher Cassandra"... I've also recommended your school to my friend.

Corrine, Mother of Julian (3 years old), Singapore

Before I came to LeoMagan, John was not able to communicate well and had difficulties interacting with people. Sometimes, he was not able to understand and follow the instructions given by his teachers in the childcare. I felt rather uncomfortable and was worried that he might not be able to have any friends.

After attending classes at LeoMagan, John started talking more and is speaking alot now. John is able to ask questions like ‘why…?’. There are also feedback from the child care teachers that John can understand and follow instructions well in school now.

John has become more cheerful and he enjoys going to the chilcare. He is also able to understand what others expect of him. In his childcare, there is a progress report given every term. In comparison to the previous terms, John’s report was ticked more of ‘need improvement’ than now where his report has more of ‘competence’.

John now knows what to say and when to say certain things. At LeoMagan, the prices suit my financial situation and it is not a burden. The prices are not too expensive as compared to some tuition centres.

The child is also able to get more attention here.I really appreciate the effort that teachers and therapists had spent on my child, analysing his status and arranging what is the best for him.

Parents who have children with similar situation like my child, I would strong recommend for you to send your child for speech therapy. The therapy can help him or her to improve on communication skills and socializing skills which cannot be lacked in this society.

Mother of John (6 years old), Singapore

We would like to thank Ms Magan and Leo for taking good care of Kai Qian during the years. Grateful that he has met a good teacher like you to catch up on his development.

Also, provided a professional advises to overcome his limit to support his future needs. Once again we would like to address our heartfelt thankful to Leo Magan School. Wish your all the best and good health 🙂

- Mother of Kai Qian (Primary 2), Singapore

Before I came to LeoMagan, Jarrenson’s speech was slow and could not form complete sentences. I felt upset to see him get frustrated as his peers could not understand him well. After attending classes at LeoMagan, there was a great improvement.

He is more fluent in speech, complete his sentences and use vocabularies as well. I am really happy and glad to know that he can express and describe his feelings better now. I understand that speech therapy is not an overnight cure and children needs more love and care to overcome these difficulties.

As parents, we should never give up on them. At LeoMagan, the prices are reasonable and affordable and this has helped me, financially, in a great way. I would like to thank all the teachers at LeoMagan for thier help and patience towards Jarrenson. It has greatly helped me in every way.

- Ivy, Mother of Jarrenson (5 years old), Singapore

Before I came to Leo Magan, Lucas could not talk. I felt frustrated especially since children his age are already talking.  After attending sessions are LeoMagan, Lucas called me “Mummy” for the first time. Lucas is more confident and happier now as he is able to communicate with other children his age in school.

A lot of people have commented that my son is talking non-stop now. I am very glad to have bought him to LeoMagan. The sessions are very affordable and effective too. The Speech Therapist and the Teachers at LeoMagan, have been very professional.

It was a very enjoyable experience to have been able to work with all of them. If you are trying to decide if you should give speech therapy a try, I would say don’t wait. Come to Leo Magan now. I have seen Lucas progress alot after attending sessions at LeoMagan. Thank you for your support and patience with Lucas 🙂

- Mother of Lucas (5 years old), Singapore

It is my pleasure to write this testimonial about your school and the staff. My kid started attending Leo Magan from 2012 March/ April onwards till end April 2013. He came with a problem of having difficulty in pronunciation for many of the alphabets due to having a “Short Tongue”.

He improved along the way with the interesting and innovative methods of teaching,  learning through interesting computer aided teaching as well as the patience and good guidance of the teachers!

We were very please to receive weekly end of lesson updates on his learning progression and problems he is still currently facing. This has help us parents to better play our part in guiding and teaching him to better improve himself as well as prepare him for more advance stage of learning during class time.

After his operation last December, we see that there is an improvement in his pronunciation and his tongue is able to curl up more. This language skill was further enhance with specific attention paid to him by Teacher Wendy during class! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Teacher Wendy for her encouragement to him for doing better in his learning as well as behaviour!

Before we came to Leo Magan, the main thing which frustrated me was Raphael’s speech problems. It makes me feel worried and paranoid as a parent. We didn’t know if he understood us because there was no eye contact nor was there any response when we spoke to him.

Six months after starting classes in Leo Magan, Raphael was much more responsive and we could see he was improving. He was able to communicate and express his wants and dislikes very well. Also, his spelling is very advanced for his age.

At age 2, he was able to spell a lot more than his peers. It is much easier now because we know what he wants and both parties are not frustrated trying to communicate. We’re no longer playing guessing games, at least he is able to express and speak up for himself now.

We are no longer worried whether he will have problems communicating when attending school. Raphael’s school and Leo Magan teachers have commented that he has improved from constantly shunning classroom activities and restricting contact with others, to being more attentive, and able to sit, listen and participate.

Price wise, it is affordable. Although I would like to bring forth the point that the value of professional services to help the child improve his life is priceless. The help my child has received is more valuable than any amount of money to be spent. A big thank you to the teachers at Leo Magan.

No words can express the help, love and patience Raphael has received on his journey. A child’s foundation is very important and you have helped Raphael build a solid foundation for his life. To individuals contemplating speech therapy, you really have to go for it.No hesitating.

It’s not about thinking if your child needs help, don’t just wait for the ‘right time’. Be aware of not just your child’s wants, but also what your child’s needs. If your child needs help, just take action. Also, a big thank you for the reminders for classes or extra information.

Especially since with our busy schedules, reminders are very helpful. Very thoughtful of you. Thank you.

Jane, Mother of Raphael (4 years old), Singapore

Before we came to Leo Magan, we were unable to communicate with and understand Jonathan. His inability to regulate his emotions also frustrated us. It made me feel lost, and inadequate as a parent. When Jonathan could answer “yes” or “no” to simple questions, it was the first breakthrough to having a conversation with him.

We were able to make progress to communicating with each other. This led to reduced frustration due to the inability to understand each other. It was a gradual progression from Jonathan responding with simple answers to making simple requests, to written language.

Understanding the steps to building the ability to communicate in spoken and written language helped me a lot in helping Jonathan communicate. The affordable prices really helps us manage the financial and time demands of a kid with learning differences. Thank you!

I have learnt a lot about how we can help Jonathan learn communication that otherwise is hard for us to understand since acquired language is typically picked up naturally. During the recent September holiday, Jonathan attended 3 sessions of Leo Magan’s Language for Math Holiday Program, which led to his teachers commenting on his remarkable improvement in mathematics.

To someone who’s trying to decide whether they should give speech therapy a try: it’s a long term process and requires frequent reinforcement in daily life.

Karen, Mother of Jonathan (Primary Two), Singapore

Hi Teacher Magan. Thanks for all the help and guidance to Ashlyn.  She is now better able to express herself and fit better with her peers.

Thanks to teacher Adeline too for her patience and advices all these while. Ashlyn has enjoyed her lessons with the school. Thanks again and best wishes

Mother of Ashlyn (5 years old), Singapore

We are glad that the decision to engage LeoMagan’s help on Marcus’ speech articulation problem came out to be a fruitful and rewarding one. Marcus used to have difficulties pronouncing certain sounds. It surprised me on how much Marcus has improved after just a mere 8 sessions with the speech therapist.

We would like to express our gratitude especially to the speech therapist for her dedicated coaching. The class settings are relaxing ones and Marcus enjoyed all the session with her.

Marcus is now a more confident speaker with clear speech articulation, and as parents, we are free of worried on his speech issues now. Thank you LeoMagan speech sanctuary.

Mother of Marcus (6 years old), Singapore

At 3 years old, Lucas was only talking 1 word at a time when children his age should already be talking in sentences. He could not even call me mummy then.

But after bringing him to LeoMagan and just after 6 months, the long awaited word mummy finally came from him and he is also talking a lot more. I can see that he is so much more confident and happier now.

Teacher Magan and Adeline, I really appreciate your dedication and patience you gave to Lucas. Thank you so much.

- Karen, mother of Lucas (4 years old), Singapore

Leo Magan came into our life when my gal’s preschool teacher alerted us that she might be having some speech problems, stuttering, limited vocabulary, disability to articulate well. It then slowly affects her social skills.

Her classmates were not able to play with her as they have problems understanding her. Soon she was playing alone most times. She is our first child and we were a little lost as to how to handle the situation. Her first 2 months with another therapy centre did not help much.

It requires either of us to accompany her during work hours. After realizing that my gal requires much more sessions, it came to a point that we were no longer able to balance her needs vs our work commitment. That was the time when someone introduced Leo Magan to us.

Since then, we knew we made the right move. Based on the first assessment, Leo Magan put together therapy sessions that would suit her. Along the way, adjustments were made accordingly. The added advantage, Leo Magan allowed us to have the sessions on weekends, it greatly helped us.

It allowed us to participate and involved. As days passed, we see improvement in her speech. She is speaking with more clarity, diction and articulation. The group therapy session had also helped her learn how to communicate better and able to manage conflicts with her peers.

This year when her preschool teacher did the half yearly meet-the-parent session, they expressed their amazement that they observed so much improvement in her speech as compared to 6 months ago. This observation came from her chinese teacher as well.

We believe somehow the technique taught has helped her even for the chinese language. The mouth and tongue movements. The teachers were asking what we had done, so that it can be a case study for any other kid that they would come across the next time.

We mentioned Leo Magan. We are glad to have found the right place and would really like to express our most sincere thanks to all of you. It is because of your patience, expertise that she made much progress. You have always been so considerate to clients, taking care of the students needs, care for them. These matters more. 😉 Thank you Magan and Leo.

With the encouragement of the speech therapists, Isabel has developed not only her speech but also her confidence and is now very enthusiastic about her new found voice.

She enjoys attending the sessions due to play-based teaching and learning methods. As a teacher myself, I understand that it can be difficult to engage children in activities that they may struggle with but the speech therapists have found and used a variety of techniques to reach, encourage and develop my daughter. Thank you!

Mother of Isabel (6 years old), Australia

Grace was first identified by our doctor to have developmental delay and was sent to Special School when she was 18 months old while attending full time childcare centre. At the childcare centre, she was often bullied and ostracized by her friends as she could not verbalize/expressed her needs & wants in single words, resulting in Grace playing alone.

Since sending Grace to Leo Magan speech Sanctuary in Nov 2007 at the age of 4 years + for speech therapy. She is now able to express and communicate successfully with her peers and teachers.

Within a span of 1 year and 10 months, Grace has not only enjoyed her lessons, she has shown tremendous improvement & progress in her speech; this is attributed to the dedication, patience & commitment of her teachers.

Mother of Grace (Primary 2), Singapore

Charis’ speech therapy sessions are conducted in a fun & informal manner, often with the aid of educational toys, games and the computer.

Her speech has become a lot clearer and her reading has improved.

Mother of Charis (Primary 1), Singapore

Jed enjoys coming for Leo Magan speech therapy lessons. He thinks the session is fun and as a result, he has no problem doing the home practice. After six months of therapy, I am very glad to say that he is more articulate and confident in his speech.

He even acts like a little therapist sometimes, correcting us on our pronunciation. I too have enjoyed the partnership and I think they are truly professional. I would not hesitate to recommend Leo Magan’s speech therapy services to my friends

Mother of Jed C. (4 years old), Singapore

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to you for helping my son. He is now a chatty and happy boy!

- Mother of C.J. (4 years old), Singapore

I never forgot the therapist’s first words which open the window of hope: ‘Triston is capable of doing better’…Our sincere gratitude goes to Leo Magan, for their assistance, patience, and in sharing with us their professional knowledge during our speech therapy sessions.

- Daphne, mother of Triston (4 years old), Singapore

“J.S. enjoyed Leo Magan’s classes tremendously! He looked forward to each session. Most importantly, I have seen vast improvements in his speech. Thank You!

- Mother of J.S (5 years old), Singapore

I found the cross crawl to be very effective with Jack. I was amazed that when I was doing it with him at home, how he actually remembered things I had told him and even hearing him speak at home. He was including words in his sentences that I had been trying to get him to say for a long time. I will continue to do this with him at home on a regular basis.

Child Language Delay (Specific Language Impairment, SLI)

Annie, mother of Shawn (Secondary 1), Singapore (Third Testimonial)

My son has SLI, he just collected his PSLE results and has exceeded our expectations making him qualify for Normal Academic. Life was very different before we found Leo Magan.

I told my friends that I am very sure I had found the right help for my son after my first meeting with Magan. They all think that I was crazy or too desperate but I was very sure I wasn't.

We have tried many therapists before we found Leo Magan and therefore I trust my instinct.

It's tough to be parents of a SLI kid in Singapore but it's even tougher to be a kid who has SLI. There is too little knowledge teachers and people know about SLI and most of the time, they just think that my son is lazy, disobedient or in simple word, stupid. There is a lack of empathy from society today and hopefully my sharing will create more awareness for SLI children.

These kids have challenges understanding a few steps instructions / question even in everyday dialogue. Every question in the workbook is challenging to them as they will have difficulty processing it. And that is what My son has to deal with for all subjects in school.

When we first went to Leo Magan for therapy, I remembered her warning me that it will be a lifetime challenge for Shawn and parents have to give their upmost support. The more a person with SLI practice , the more he/she will improve.

At the same time, I will practice some of the exercises that he was given at Leo Magan with him at home. Trust me, it sure wasn't easy, we would end up with tears in our eyes or joy in our laughter.

The key word is practice, practice & practice, if you think by going for a few  sessions at Leo Magan would see a whole new difference to your child, well,  you will be so wrong. My son has started therapy at Leo Magan from age 4.5 years old.

And since last year, Magan and her team will guide my son on his math problems and in his English paper as well, breaking it systematically for him to understand. Countless hours were put in both for my son and his therapists.

Apart from that, i think every happy child will be a learning child, let your children be happy even at the most silliest things. If they are happy, they will not reject working hard to learn.

Thru my son, I have learn this important lesson, hide your tears and fears. Tell yourself to help them make small improvements, praise and reward them, work hand in hand with their teachers and the therapists, look forward and not backward no matter how much fear you have.

Develop a hobby between you and your child and spend time together in doing something that could bring them much confidence. Let them know it's equally important other than academic.

I believe strongly in perseverance & never give up. I love this verse so much... It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

We got to work hand in hand, imagine if I didn't cross path with you, God knows what will Shawn's life be.

That's all from me Magan:) xoxo

P.S. Shawn scored grade B in his PSLE exams, previously he has failed English since primary 4.

Annie, mother of Shawn (Secondary 1), Singapore (Third Testimonial)

Hi Leo & Magan,

Many thanks for your years of patience and guidance for KaiXiong. It’s been a long learning journey for Kaixiong and we were very glad he had found the right guidance to help him.

We were quite lost when we were told by KKH to find him a speech therapist but we glad you had guided us how we can help KaiXiong. Thanks very much for all these years helping KaiXiong.

Parents of Kai Xiong (Primary 4), Singapore

After only 2 months of lessons at LeoMagan, I began to see a lot of improvement in Rayhan’s exam results. Before I came to LeoMagan, the immense improvement required of him in Primary 1 in the areas of reading and writing had me feeling a little bit worried.

In June 2014, the teachers in his school had given me feedback about how he could not read many words. However, in November 2014, they teachers were surprised that there were only 4 words that he was unable to read in the reading assessment. He is now confident when it comes to reading and writing. He is also very independent in doing his homework and assessments.

With the effective classes and affordable rates, I am more than happy that he can continue with his classes at LeoMagan.

I would like to thank all the teachers in LeoMagan, especially Teacher Sarah. Her commitment and dedication to my son has helped tremendously in his school grades. She would always hear my concerns and addresses them. My advice to parents would be to definitely start out speech therapy for your children at an early age.

Mother of Rayhan (Primary 1), Singapore

Before I came to LeoMagan, Sherry could not follow up in school, especially in langauge. I got so worried, hence I decided to heed her teacher’s recommendation for Sherry to come to LeoMagan.

After attending classes at LeoMagan, there was a great improvement.Despite having difficulties with her grammar, she continues to make an effort to write compositions all by herself.

Since then, I feel less stressful when teaching or coaching her with her homework. Her teacher even notice slight improvement in her and recommended for her to go for foundation class in school.

As parents, we should never give up on them.
At LeoMagan, the prices are reasonable and affordable and this has helped me, financially, in a great way. I really appreciate the help given by the teachers and I hope that they will continue to help Sherry to improve further.

If someone happens to decide whether they should give speech therapy, I would definitely recommend speech therapy for their child.

Mother of Sherry (Primary 5), Singapore

“Before Xavier came to LeoMagan, he was not able to express himself well, not able to understand Math problem sums and also had poor understanding in language. As a parent, I felt rather frustrated and helpless.

After Xavier came to LeoMagan, he was able to speak using words which I did not expect. This successful outcome had made us as parents less miserable as we were able to teach him more easily compared to the past.

One success story to share is that Xavier’s Maths term 4 result in Primary 2 was 68, now his term 4 result in Primary 3 is 84.
His Maths problem sums’s results used to be about half of what he achieves now – 18/20.

LeoMagan aims to provide premium and effective therapy at affordable price; this has helped my son and it is easier for me to manage my expenses.

I would like to express my gratitude to the speech therapists and teachers at LeoMagan for making my son more confident, more expressive, more vocal and more sociable. Xavier has just received the model student award for term 4 in school.

If you are in the midst of deciding whether to give speech therapy a try, I would say give it a go (‘Die die must come’)!

I absolutely have no regrets in giving a try and am pleased with the results I see. The therapists and teachers are sincere and show concern for the student’s well-being and development. I also suggest for LeoMagan to expand its premises so as to benefit more students.

Amanda, Mother of Xavier (Primary 4), Singapore

Natalie did well in P1. She was given the model student award for her class and a letter from recognition for her results. Thanks much for giving her a solid foundation! Cheers!

- Jeanie, Mother of Natalie (Primary 2), Singapore

A lot of people have commented that K. N. has improved so much after she attended speech therapist classes, her teachers, even the child development doctors she is seeing.

She got best progress student for her class this year.Really need to give a big thank you to Danielle and Wendy, and you for setting up the class.

- Jasmine, Mother of K.N. (4years old), Singapore

Besides providing speech therapy, Leo Magan is also an established language therapy centre. We sought help for SQ when she was 6 because she was lagging behind in her reading skills. SQ reading skills improved by leap and bounds (her reading scale improved by 9 months) after just 3 months of classes with Leo Magan.

As we have witnessed the great improvement in SQ’s reading skills, we continued the language therapy at Leo Magan speech Sanctuary. SQ enjoys her lessons at Leo Magan very much. SQ is now in Primary 1 and is doing well in school. In the beginning of the year, she was only able to learn 2 new words a day after 1 hour of intensive revision.

Now, she’s able to learn all the words in her spelling list within 1-2 hours. She has also been able to score full marks in spelling, English & Maths tests.

Her confidence in learning has improved and she is now more independent in her reading. We are very thankful to the team in Leo Magan speech Sanctuary for helping both our kids. We have every confidence in them and we believe that with their continuous support, both JH and SQ will overcome their speech and learning challenges.”

My youngest daughter SQ also showed signs of stuttering when she was about 4 years old. She was discharged after 1 year of speech therapy and she has been fluent in her speech since then.

Mrs. Soh - Mother of J.H. (primary 3) and S.Q. (primary 1), Singapore

We are very grateful to you and Leo for helping JH and SQ for all these years. Really, without your effort and guidance, both my kids would have struggled a lot more. Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher/therapist and for all the care and concern you have shown to JH and SQ.

We may not be seeing you much in the future but you will be in our thoughts. Anyway don’t be surprise if my kids show up in your class again, esp JH. Take care and best wishes.

Mrs. Soh - Mother of J.H. (primary 6) and S.Q. (primary 4), Singapore (Second Testimonial)

When Shawn started his speech language therapy at Leo Magan speech Sanctuary, he had problems expressing his thoughts. He was about 4.5 years old and had communication issues with his peers.

A few speech therapists and doctors were sure that he has had Autism. Shawn do not like going for therapy sessions. He was diagnosed with Specific Language impairment (SLI).

As a desperate mother and finding him to be normal other than communication problem & slight behaviour issues, I found LeoMagan on the web.

After the first meeting, I was very sure that they were the one my son needs. After his first speech therapy lesson, he is always looking forward to every single lesson. To us, Leo Magan is really a God send angel.

The teachers are encouraging, positive and sincere. After a year, Shawn is such a different boy now. He is chatty and always looking forward to communicate with peers (making friends) and isn’t afraid to try.

No words can express our sincere gratitude. All our lives have been changed! It’s our good fortune to meet Leo Magan. We will work hand in hand with you guys. Thank you!

Annie, mother of Shawn (6 years old), Singapore

Hi Leo Magan… a very sincere thank you to you for changing Shawn’s life…we couldn’t have did it without your help… The road ahead might be more tough for us but it keeps us positive to know that you are always there to help us!” – comment posted on Facebook.

Annie, mother of Shawn (Primary 4), Singapore (Second Testimonial)

My son Vernon, now 5 years old, has been undergoing speech therapy with Leo Magan speech Sanctuary Pte Ltd from April 2008 for an oral developmental problem that may affect his learning.

Vernon can’t speak well at his age of 3. We believe that he is just different from other children in some aspects of the learning process and he is not abnormal.

We found Leo Magan which is able to help us manage Vernon’s speech issue. Under the care of Leo Magan speech Sanctuary, the speech Language Therapist is able to understand Vernon, connect well with him and encourage him to speak up.

The strength of this sanctuary is their true affection towards every child and desire to achieve and develop key competencies in every child towards fulfilling their potential.

We hope, with Leo Magan’s proper management of Vernon’s problem we can help him to achieve his optimal potential. We have confidence in Leo Magan to provide my child with the best opportunity to achieve.

Lena, Mother of Vernon (6 years old), Singapore

Keefe has been attending speech language therapy at Leo Magan for over 4 years. He has made significant improvements in his speech since he started here, his speech is more intelligible and people find him easier to understand.

Keefe looks forward to his sessions at Leo Magan and we are glad to have found a quality therapy centre that operates over the weekend where Keefe can benefit from and suit our working schedule.

Yvonne, mother of Keefe (Primary 4), Singapore

Charis’ speech therapy sessions are conducted in a fun & informal manner, often with the aid of educational toys, games and the computer. Her speech has become a lot clearer and her reading has improved.

Mother of Charis (Primary 1), Singapore

Ms. Magan, you give me a gift in every lesson. When I’m saying something, I hear what you have taught me…

Sarah (6 years old), Singapore

I like Leo Magan’s language therapy sessions as it is conducted in fun ways. Examples are through games, educational toys and the computer. Now, I am able to speak and read more clearly.

Child Reading Difficulties (Dyslexia)

Wendy, Mother of Kai (Preschool in British International School), United Kingdom

Before we came to LeoMagan Kai was struggling in school and was asked to re-sit the year. Seeing that he was struggling and had lost his confidence, we panicked for him, but we didn’t know how to start helping him. He kept saying “I don’t know this” and it’s heartbreaking to hear your 5-year-old say this. It was a frustrating time for Kai and people around him.

Even after just the initial assessment at LeoMagan, which picked up and identified Kai’s difficulty as Specific Language Impairment (SLI), we felt hopeful because we found the cause. There have been so many breakthroughs since he started classes at LeoMagan.

His confidence is greatly improved, he can vocalise and he’s much happier now. There has been a positive knock-on effect on everything – even in sports, he can now understand instructions and rules and join in.

His school teachers are very impressed and say that they couldn’t have predicted how far he’s come just over the period of one term. He learnt more at LeoMagan over one term than he did in school with the assistance of one class teacher, one remedial teacher and one school speech therapist!

Everyone at LeoMagan has listened and catered to Kai’s specific needs and helped him learn without him even realising it. Even in group classes, the teachers managed to target the specific areas. He used to get upset at me when I fail to understand his speech, but now he tries to explain things and is able to ask questions.

I can’t be more grateful and recommend LeoMagan highly enough. I have a much happier child now. I’m very happy that I brought Kai here, the teachers have gone out of their way to help.

Wendy, Mother of Kai (Preschool in British International School), United Kingdom

Before we came to Leo Magan, Chester couldn’t read. He could only read 1 or 2 words out of the reading list given by the school. He hated school and didn’t want to go to school. I was very worried and lost because I didn’t know how to help him.

I started seeing improvements within 3 months of classes at Leo Magan. Chester’s confidence had improved greatly. Before that, his lack of self confidence was very obvious in school. He would always sit at the back or the corner of the classroom.

Now, he has become a more confident and happier boy. He is able to articulate his thoughts to his teachers, and the way he carries himself is also very different. Recently, he was even appointed the class monitor! I couldn’t believe it.

When Chester got to Primary 1, his teacher asked me to go through a word list of 150 words with him. He could read the entire list. I was so, so happy. He also got full marks for almost all his assessments.

I appreciate that Leo Magan offers a very affordable price as I have 2 boys. The class size is very small and the teacher has ample time for each child. For this quality and class size, the fees are very reasonable.

I would like to thank Magan and the teachers here. I don’t know how they do it but my boys always look forward to coming to class. They get upset when there are no classes. If you are considering therapy but have some reservations, do keep an open mind, keep your options open and try it. I am very happy with Chester’s progress and grateful for the help received.

Yvette, Mother of Chester (Primary 1), Singapore

I want to say a Big Thank You to all the teachers at Leo Magan. Rustem has achieved more in 2 years of classes here than in 4 years of school. He is now reading better, building sentences, sounding words out and expressing himself.

Rustem is also definitely more confident. He is not ashamed that he can’t read, he stutters, or he can’t sound out words. He really likes the classes – he enjoys the small classes, gets to engage with his friends. Sometimes when he is sick he doesn’t want to go school for a week. For Leo Magan classes, he has no complaints even on Saturdays and Sundays, he wakes up early and can’t wait to go. He loves going to the classes.

Rustem actually had speech therapy all his life before he started classes at LeoMagan. But he was still having difficulty in everything- reading, speech, stuttering. The biggest problem was that it really affected his confidence to try anything. I just felt so lost, not knowing how to help him, and I felt as if nobody can get through to him. Sometimes school teachers may not understand his difficulties.

I really want to thank the teachers at Leo Magan. Within 3 months of starting classes at Leo Magan, his report card from school showed improvement. Even after 2 years, every quarter he shows improvement in school.

I really like the small groups offered at Leo Magan. The affordable price means I can go for classes 2 times as often. He used to go for therapy in South Africa, it’s only individual, and only half an hour. I can’t afford to pay for therapy more often, and I can see the frequency is really important.

Every time he goes to class, he learns something he couldn’t do before. He also gets to improve not just his speech, he can engage with his friends and the interaction really helps him.

I want to say a big Thank You to all the teachers at Leo Magan who have taught Rustem. You must be so patient. I wish I can sign up for more classes or courses. This is one of the things I will miss about Singapore.

Rustem got so much from the classes here and in school. I want to help my child but so often I don’t know what to do. Having the classes, and advice from the teachers really helped me. Thank you so much!

Luzayne, Mother of Rustem (Grade 2 in International School), South Africa

Before Guan Yu started the Language for Maths Holiday Program, my husband and I both had difficulty coaching him Maths word problems. He can do the numbers in terms of additions and subtraction but he showed little interest and poor attention span when it comes to word problems.

Whenever he has to tackle word problems, he would suddenly develop interest in everything else except the Maths word problem itself. Then, he gets distracted.

We often felt helpless and frustrated as we do not know how to help him to overcome his learning difficulty in Maths. He began to develop more interest after attending the Language for Maths Holiday Program. We notice that classes seem to go from “Fun” to “More fun” from the feedbacks we got from him.

By the end of the holiday program, he does not resist attempting word problems anymore and he is so engaged at times that it spurs him to think further and challenge if the problems make sense.

The learning process has definitely become a real fun now with much lesser frustration for Guan Yu and all of us, seeing improvements in numerous areas like reading, understanding of mathematical problem sum and social interaction.

We really appreciated that the therapies are charged at affordable price as we know this is going to be a long learning journey for Guan Yu and we are glad that he has since showed improvement from the therapies. Thus, we would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to all in the center and LeoMagan for providing us the flexibility during the school holiday and that the lessons have helped Guan Yu to overcome his problems with maths.

Lastly, I would like to urge any parents who are in doubt if their kids needed help to give speech therapy a try. I can’t thank the team enough for the supports they provided since Guan Yu started his lesson more than a year ago. Without the guidance and support from the teachers, Guan Yu may not be able to perform as he is now.

Mother of Guan Yu (Primary 3), Singapore

Before Clara started therapy here, she had a lot of vocabulary and words (evident from her pointing to words on the books etc) but she wasn’t conversing with us. We weren’t sure if she had speech delay, had difficulty putting words into sentence or just wasn’t sure the purpose of communication, resulting in her reluctance to speak.

As an only child, everything was provided to her without her having to ask/communicate. Before seeking help from LeoMagan, I was intent on seeking intervention as advised by the pediatrician but wasn’t sure which service provider to go to, until chancing upon LeoMagan brochure from a visit to the child development unit at NUH.

After starting the therapy sessions, I remembered less than 2 months, Clara was able to respond to simple sentences and was more focused and had more eye contact with us. I’ve learnt a lot as a parent, through LeoMagan about how as parents, the communication style helps to encourage the child to speak up.

With some of the tips like getting eye contact, using simple sentences to get attention, closed-loop communication, I was made aware of the things I can do to help my child.

The price was reasonable, as there were 4 classes each month. There was flexibility in class schedules and no pressure to commit on a long term basis, unlike some providers which would insist on a term session. Clara started the therapy with Magan and enjoyed a very cordial teacher/student relationship.

In the initial sessions, Clara was rather shy with the other students around and Magan helped to settle her into a class setting with toys, stickers and small motivation stuff, which were essential and helpful tips to parents.

She made good progress in her speech and pronunciation and through her K1/K2 years, the teachers in school have commented that Clara’s language skills are very proficient. She can read and spell words independently. In the recent year, Clara has been with teacher Danielle and she enjoys her session very much.

There is a good mix of students of similar levels attending the same session, and that complemented the learning. Intervention has done so much for my daughter and as a parent who has gone through difficult periods where the child is not communicating with me, it is an option all parents should consider.

It does wonders and open up a world of words, sound, engaging interaction and drama! Thanks for everything you’ve done for Clara and I’m glad that I made the right choice 3 years ago!

Jacie, mother of Clara (Primary One), Singapore

At the end of last year, Hailey’s school teachers were very concerned because she was not reading at her age level. After attending reading classes at Leo Magan, her school teachers noticed her marked improvement in reading.

Child Stuttering / Stammering

Beverly, Mother of Hailey (6 years old), Australia (Second Testimonial)

Hailey started stuttering shortly after she turned 3 years old. As her parents, we were naturally concerned as we were aware of the negative impact that stuttering could have on Hailey’s self esteem and social skills.

Much of the research we did on the Internet suggested that stuttering was common at that age and would go away on its own. However, when we noticed Hailey’s frustration as she struggled to communicate, we decided to promptly seek professional help from Leo Magan speech Sanctuary.

And we are so glad that we did! After just a few lessons, Hailey’s speech fluency improved significantly. Through fun exercises and games during the classes, Hailey was able to learn tools and techniques to help her effectively overcome her stuttering. Much to our delight and relief, Hailey now no longer stutters at all!

She continues to attend weekly therapy and revision lessons to further develop and practice her communication skills and she has benefited from these sessions. Her speech articulation has improved greatly and she has a good command of the spoken language.

In addition, she has become more confident, assertive and sociable; she is able to express herself and is understood by others. We are most grateful to the team for the positive experience we have had at Leo Magan. The teaching staff has been very supportive, patient and encouraging towards Hailey and this has contributed significantly.

Beverly, Mother of Hailey (6 years old), Australia (Second Testimonial)

We have been consulting Leo Magan regarding my daughter’s stuttering problem, which we noticed when she was attending pre-school. She is currently in Primary 6 and her stuttering has already improved a lot from the time of the initial consultation.

From time to time, she would still stutter. However, this would be mitigated by my daughter applying the techniques taught to her by the speech therapist, minimising the stuttering. The therapist would also augment the speech therapy treatment by engaging the parents after each sessions so that the lessons from the session could be followed-up by the parents.

Overall, Leo Magan has helped my daughter to effectively manage her stuttering problem through various techniques and her initiative to engage the child’s parents.

Jared has benefit enormously after attending sessions here both with remedial and therapy classes given. Appreciate both positive and negative feedback/sharing after lesson. Most of all the lessons are affordable that allows me to continue engaging them to help my child to develop further.

Father of Jared (6 years old), Singapore

When Dominique started speech therapy at Leo Magan, he had limited vocabulary and speech, as well as a slight social communications issue. Today, Dominique has progressed tremendously, and is able to communicate fluently with us, as well as his peers.

We are truly pleased with his progress and appreciate the excellent results from the sessions conducted by Leo Magan, which have proven to be very effective speech therapy and learning times.

Our sincere thanks to Leo Magan.

Father of Dominique (Secondary one), Singapore

We are very grateful to Ms Magan and Ms Wendy for their patience & care of Aidan over the 3 1/2 year period of ST & revision lessons. Aidan has improved alot, in terms of his communication, listening & social skills since he started lesson at LeoMagan.

From not being to sit still for long periods of time and low on communication skills. Aidan is now able to same some words & greeting the teachers. Although he can’t verbalise it personally, we know Aidan enjoys going for his weekly lesson at Leo Magan!

We would like to thank everyone at LeoMagan for everything they had done to help Aidan improve his communication skills. We will not hesitate to send Aidan back to LeoMagan when the opportunity arises in the future.

Mother of Aidan (7 years old), Singapore

In the 10 months that Scott has been at your school, we have seen a marked improvement in his communication skills and his confidence. He can now better articulate what he wants and interacts with his peers.

Even his nursery school teachers also commented on the positive changes. We appreciate the learning environment that you and your teachers have created.

The tips to aid his speech development are practical and easy to apply at home. Scott also looks forward to his weekly classes. Thank you for the guidance and attention to helping our child.

Mother of Scott (5 years old), Singapore

Valerie was very resistant and not willing to participate in the class activities initially when first started. Leo Magan teaching team are very patient with her, slowly they win her over.

Valerie now love attending the individual and group classes and has improved tremendously in her speech, social skill and confident level.

She is more outspoken, less shy and express herself so much better than before! Everyone see the changes in her especially her childcare teachers. They were asking, "What have you done to her in such a short period of time?"

I would like to thank the teaching team and Leo Magan for their true, advice and tips, which help Valerie to improve so much. I were once very lost and worried over Valerie condition but now I no longer. I will certainly recommend Leo Magan speech Sanctuary to others. Thanks!

Christine, mother of Valerie (6 years old), Singapore

Kieran started speech therapy a few years ago whereby he was only able to communicate in single words. His speech delay impacted his learning and ability to make friends, causing frustration to him and people around him.

Now he has transformed into a bubbly boy, speaking in complete sentences and able to express his thoughts clearly. This will not have been possible without speech therapy in Leo Magan and his school intervention program.

During his classes, the teaching staff at Leo Magan taught him to make clear articulation and better comprehension via classroom activities. By tapping on his visual strength, Kieran has improved and gained greatly from her classes.

Other social skills like sharing and turn taking are reinforced as well. I believe all children with speech and/or language delay can benefit with Leo Magan classes as the contents are practical and aligned to school syllabus.”

Recently, he asked me what I thought is most important. Then he proceed to say that he thinks teamwork and friends are most important. Without them things can’t be done and nobody will help each other in times of trouble. Thanks for infusing this in him!

Cleo, Mother of Kieran (Primary 4), Singapore

I am sure no parents would like the idea of your own child being labelled autistic. We discovered Gabriel showed some symptoms of Autism a year ago (3 years old). The obvious symptom was lack of eye contact and overly obsessed with spelling.

Desperately searching for means and ways we can do to help him. We found Leo Magan on the web. That was when we started to learn how we as a parent can help him. Gabriel started to use his vocabulary from the very first appointment.

We were taught ways to help him to start talking and maintaining eye contact. Many of these methods are very trivial that most of us won’t realise how important these are to special children like Gabriel.

Of course we had diligently followed these guidelines throughout this year and I am so glad that his autistic review has given us good feedback that ‘Gabriel may not be in the spectrum anymore’.

Jasmine, mother of Gabriel (5 years old), Singapore

When Caleb just started speech therapy with Leo Magan, his speech is garbled and nobody can understand him. He is almost speaking in another foreign language.

His behaviour is also horrible. Now people around him can understand him, his social skills is much better and no behavioural issues in school. He is also able to answer questions. Leo Magan has done a very good in helping Caleb.

Adult Speech (Articulation, Lisp, Rhotacism, Accent Improvement etc)

Before I came to LeoMagan, I had a very obvious lisp that made me very self conscious
about my pronunciation. I felt an improvement within 3 months, especially when people started to notice that my pronunciation has improved.

I am now able to speak more confidently and clearly. For those who are considering speech therapy, I would encourage them to give it a try as LeoMagan’s professional guidance is very effective. I’d like to thank Magan for helping me to overcome my poor pronunciation.

Mr Loong (Adult), Lawyer, Singapore

Before coming to LeoMagan, I felt very frustrated when it came to my pronunciation of certain words due to my lisp. It made me feel less confident when I spoke.

After attending classes at LeoMagan, I saw improvement within 2 to 3 weeks. I was able to pronounce the “S” sound more clearly and that allowed me to be more confident and expressive when I’m speaking.

For people considering speech therapy, I would advise for them to just give it a try as the benefits of speaking more clearly are plenty. An important benefit was being able to articulate clearly during interviews and presentations whereby it is necessary to speak to a group.

Lastly, I’d like to thank LeoMagan for their patience and hard work in guiding me.

Lucas J. (Adult), University student, Singapore

In both my professional and personal life, people who I wanted to understand me often struggled to do so. I felt incredibly frustrated as I would speak and realize that my words were not understood by the lack of response or a different response than the question called for.

I have to overcome the difficulty of revealing my shortcoming to others but without having some self awareness, I can never improve myself. Fortunately, I have wonderful people around me that are always looking for self improvement/enrichment thus it makes it easier for me.

After the first therapy session, I became aware of the lack of the ‘range of motion’ I use when I speak which helps me to understand how to work on the mechanics of speech and work towards improving my communication.

This serves to improve the quality of my relationships and help me to contribute to those around me. I believe that not all problems can be solved on your own, sometimes you’ll need a guide. The cost vs return ratio is well worth it. So far, the speech therapy has been good.

I think the therapy is well worth it, especially living in a multi-cultural society where we all speak English in different ways. We can’t assume what may work in our comfortable situation works when speaking to people outside that comfort zone. I am happy to have found LeoMagan.

Thomas F. (Adult), Business Manager, USA

My lisp was one thing that frustrated me a lot before I came to LeoMagan. It was hard for me to pronounce the “s” in words.

This made me feel embarrassed to talk especially because the lisp is more obvious when I get excited. I did not know how to correct my lisp at all so I tend to just shut up, or rush through talking.

I spent some time reading about how to do something about it online, before I finally decided to invest some time and effort to do some speech therapy.

After I started my speech therapy, I have improved a lot after just 2, 3 sessions. My speech is so much better, my friends are surprised I need speech therapy. I am much more conscious of how I can say ‘s’ words clearly. My speech is a lot better. I feel much more confident. I am comfortable to take my time to express myself.

If you are thinking about speech therapy, and have the time and resources, you should definitely try it out. It will help you for life.

Zachary L.(Adult), IT Specialist, Singapore

After years of problems with mumbling and unclear speech, I sought help from Leo Magan speech Sanctuary. I realised that I should have sought help earlier!

My areas of weaknesses were identified and I was given exercises to strengthen my speech. After merely a few months of lessons, I have seen a remarkable improvement in my speech and I am now able to clearly pronounce sounds which I used to struggle with in the past.

Michael (Adult), Business Executive, Singapore

I’ve always known that my voice is a little high-pitched and I’ve been soft-spoken. It made me feel self-conscious. I was worried that people may think that I do not have confidence and will not trust me to do my job.

After coming to LeoMagan, I learnt that I can adjust the pitch of my voice to a lower pitch. Within two weeks, I learnt what my problem is and have a better idea of what I can improve on. I’ve already made some changes and I just need to practice more.

I want to thank LeoMagan for helping me, and being flexible and accommodating. I’m so happy you answered my phone call when I was looking for help. It’s been very helpful seeing a speech therapist for advice and it has helped me boost my confidence.

Joseph A. (Adult), Radiographer, Philippines

Voice therapy has enlightened me in the proper way of breathing. Through proper breathing, I am able to project my voice better. The classes have been helpful in assisting me to regain my voice and release my stress. Through the sessions, I am able to know myself better too.

Adult Stuttering / Stammering

Before coming to LeoMagan, I felt very frustrated as I wasn’t able to speak properly. I would avoid certain words because I know I will stutter. People would criticise my speech. People around me attribute me not being able to get various achievements or benefits because of my stuttering. They say I cannot get advancement because of my speech.

When I was looking up about speech therapy online, I had a hard time finding services catered to me as most of them were mainly for people who were ill or for children. I was also worried about whether it will be effective and also the cost.

I’m glad I found you. For those who are considering speech therapy, I would encourage them to give LeoMagan a try as speech therapy here is affordable and effective. I have learnt techniques here I have never seen online .

I can now speak more fluently and I am stuttering less. People actually noticed that my speech improved. Now I can say more words that I used to avoid. Before this, I would avoid certain words because I know I will stutter, but now I can say it more often. When I know I’m about to stutter, I will just apply some of the techniques I learnt. It has made me more confident in my own speech.

To everyone at LeoMagan, I want to say “Thank you for your hard work!”

Mr. Hasif (Adult), Awaiting University Admission, Singapore

Before I started speech therapy for my stuttering there were weeks and months when my speech would be really bad.

When I stutter or block I feel like I am sucked into a black hole and I can’t run away. I can’t speak up. I don’t have a choice.

I feel very self-conscious. I think it makes other people feel very awkward too. I felt that there was no way out, no speech practice I could do, or any solutions to fall back on.

I just felt lost. The worst thing is that it was a vicious cycle, the more I feel stressed, the worse my stuttering is, it goes into a ‘loop’.

Within the first few speech therapy sessions, I learnt several things, for example, how to co-ordinate my breathing with my speech.

One of the best things was just knowing that there was something I could do. It was like having a car which was spoilt, and I knew exactly which part I have to fix.

I started being able to talk to my friend and my supervisor fluently without stuttering at all for some bouts of times. It’s like the blind having bouts where they can see.. I am so impressed that you all work so well together to keep track of my progress and help me.

One of the best arrangements is the speech therapy practice sessions being affordable. I can work on something and ‘drill’ on it over a period of time.

Thank you very much. If you stutter, you should try speech therapy and start to ‘see the light’ and see the improvement for yourself.

Mr. Benjamin S. (Adult), Postgraduate Phd student, Singapore

The speech therapy has been very effective in helping me to cope with my fluency of speech. Leo Magan taught me a lot of speech technique that is useful in my daily speech, which helps to stop the blockage in stuttering.

So far it has prove to be effective because when I know that I am stuttering or going to stutter, I will apply the technique and it helps.

Mr. Daniel C. (Adult), Financial Analyst, Singapore

When I was young, I could not speak properly as I stutter a lot. Fortunately, my classmates and teachers knew me well and did not laugh at me.

But I had to face reality. My class-mates and teachers may not laugh at me as they knew the reason but others who do not know me well would laugh.

Every time when I try to speak to the teachers or just wanted to say “Hi!” to someone, I would think about it first. The reason: I would stutter and as a result, they would not understand what I am trying to say.

Up to now, I still stutter when I talk. Then a thought struck me. “Why don’t I go and see a speech therapist? That might help!”

Now I am seeing a speech therapist, whose name is Magan Chen. I have been seeing her for speech therapy sessions for over a few weeks. During the course of these few weeks, I learned a lot of things from her. Some of the things are, learning the techniques to speak fluently (without stuttering), slowly and also be able to master fluency skills.

Magan’s way of teaching people who stutter to overcome their difficulty is very effective. Now I am able to speak quite fluently despite the fact that I still stutter over some alphabet like ‘W’ but it is much better now than before.

Previously, if I stutter too much, absenteeism is my only means of escape.

Other than the methods she introduced on me, Magan is also trying very hard to make sure that I remember to use the techniques when I am talking. There are times when I forgot to use the techniques when speaking to my friends or even my maid. I would just speed up and later find myself, stuttering all the way through.

Besides that, Magan also makes the speech therapy sessions interesting and enjoyable.

The speech therapy sessions really help me improve my situation that I am in. Now I am able to speak more clearly and fluently without stuttering. This in fact, has changed my life.

Now I can join in a conversation and only stutter a few times compared to the past, when I stammer all the time and in the end, nobody knows what I am talking about. It has also helped me regain about 80% of my confidence and this has helped boosted my morale.

Previously nobody wanted me in their presentation group because I stutter. Now everybody wants me to join and I have to say No!

I must say that all these has helped me improve as well as gain confidence when I am speaking to my friends, teachers or giving a speech in class. Yes! I do stutter from time to time but the frequency has been reduced.

Last but not least, I want to say, from the bottom of my heart, a very huge “Thank you!”
